“Blessed are those who can give without remembering and take without forgetting”. – Princess Elizabeth, Asquith Bibesco. What a profound thought!
I did introspect quickly. The number of instances where I gave was remembered better to those where I have received. In reality, it is the other way round. Isn’t it? A quarter of my life, I have been only receiving things from others. Occasionally or very rarely, I have given others. Yes, this is definitely because of my limited resources, to be specific – materialistic resources. This statement is only an excuse, a lame excuse though. There were many instances when I could have been kind enough, helpful, supportive, obedient, accommodative and much more.
Exploring it further…
Life is filled with transactions. Any relationship for that matter is only a bunch of transactions. If the transactions are good enough, we pull along well. If not, the transactions would stop and the relationship would end. Reciprocating the love that we receive, the care, the affection, etc etc must be a default action to have a normal life – just, a normal life.
What if I have to enrich it…?
The question now is, which comes first – give or get. Where do I have a choice? Getting something is dependent on the other person while giving lies in my court. By all chances that’s why the phrase “Give and Take” has evolved. So it is always give first and then, take. Applying this in our day to day life would definitely create wonders.
The statement looks easy. Lets recognize and remember - it takes a lot of effort—consistent & conscious effort to do this. Probably that’s why, Eleanor Roosevelt says, “The giving of love is an education by itself”.
